When i think of underrated, this is one guy whose name pops up in my head almost instantly. Talent like Ryan Leslie is rare, VERY rare in today's industry. Although he choose to invest most of that talent into the talentless Cassie, he's quiet the musical genius and someone who i feel everybody should be checking for.

His Debut album was years in the making but it's nothing short of amazing. The talented singer/songwriter/producer put his abilities to the test to create a collection of grown and sexy songs that put his skills as a multi-instrumentalist front and center. Leslie plays Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Trumpet and drums. Its no wonder that although he hasn't had the biggest success, he's still one of the most respected dudes in the game.

Leslie got his start in the game back in 2003 when after graduating from Harvard (yes HARVARD), he decided to pursue a career in music. After spending sometime in the background as a producer, he got signed to Universal and began recording tracks for his first album "Just Right". After releasing two singles, (The Way That You Move & Used 2 Be ft Fabolous), the album was shelved indefinitely and Leslie soon left the label and ultimately leaked the majority of the album through his Myspace page.

Inbetween albums he took time out to work on protege Cassie's self-titled debut, which included some of his best work like Kiss Me, Can't Do It Without You, In Love With You & Just One Nite. He also worked with the likes of Beyonce, Britney Spears, Danity Kane, Cheri Dennis, Jojo and Donnell Jones.

In late 2007 Cassie seperated herself from Leslie, stopping all work with him and not even appearing in his videos for the single "Addicted" which featured her on the hook. Cassie has since become Diddy's main project at Bad Boy Records and has begun working on her sophomore album without the help of Leslie.

Although his sound has somewhat suffered without his protege there to inspire him and his music, he is still ahead of his game as an artist and thanks to the popularity of his youtube videos and his success as a producer he's well on his way to achiving the type of success and recognition he deserves. If you haven't already check out his self-titled debut please do so.

Here's some random tracks i love from Mr.Leslie.

Rescue You
Promise Not 2 Call
Rock U
