Its been awhile since i've done an artist spotlight, and i wanted to go alittle left field with this one, so i decided to highlight one of my favorite R&B Divas, Amerie.

I've loved and respected this young woman for awhile. From her unique voice, to her one of a kind production courtesy of Rich Harrison, together they created a sound that was undeniable. A dope mix of R&B, Hip-Hop, and DC's go-go sound that helped her stand out among today's top R&B divas. It was THIS same sound that would later spawn the career defining track that was Beyonce's "Crazy in Love", a song that caused some drama because many believe Beyonce stole Amerie's sound. (i.e Songs like Freakum Dress, Suga Mama, Crazy In Love)

"A" brokeout in 2002 with the summer anthem "Why Don't We Fall in Love", And later scored her biggest hit in 2005 with the smash "1 Thing" off the album "Touch". In 2007 she went on to release the album "Because I Love It" in the UK which and featured such gems as "That's What U R", "Some Like It", and "Paint Me Over", as well as the song "Gotta Work" which had moderate success overseas.

Since the release of that project, Amerie has been out of sight currently working on a new album over at her new label home Def Jam. Lets hope they can do for her career what they did for Rihanna's...and not leave her in the dust like Janet and Christina Milian. smh

With that said, check out some highlights from Amerie's career.

Thoughts? Do you think she will find success over at Def Jam?
